ARCA has set its 2023 gathering/conference for October 11th -13th in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This is an opportunity to engage, share, facilitate or network with and between peers in the artist-run arts sector. Working under the theme of “pathways together” ARCA is calling all artists, administrators, curators, or arts workers to come to Winnipeg for discussions, workshops, or arts-based community-engagement activities.

pathways together

As ARCs engage new methods of operations, we renew connections to each other and explore relationships within and between communities. The arts systems that support and influence organizational structures are ever changing, involving understandings of complex narratives both for the arts overall, and for individual communities. This gathering of ARCs hopes to better understand current advocacy needs, current community alignments and overall interests and directions of our extended memberships.

How can ARCs resist forms of institutionalization that run contrary to artist-centred values? What new constraints or opportunities exist beyond digital/physical programming? How can community priorities and protocols ensure the future relevance of ARCs? How can we increase capacity, reciprocity and healthy sustainable relationships?

Collective sharing allows pathways forward and networks to be formed or renewed. This gathering will bring arts workers together to speak, share, and support each other. Through establishing consensus on shared narratives of care and organizational relevance, ARCs will connect and reconnect with community roots and form meaningful relationships to carry forward with new generations. The “pathways together” gathering seeks to better understand the role of ARCs in making the arts more accessible, and how arts workers can ensure that artists are always present within our future pathways.
